Marketing Strategies Behind the ID Cards

A few days ago, I got an opportunity to participate in the closing ceremony of the 27th Kerala International Film Festival at Trivandrum. That day I noticed an interesting thing, that is, the majority of the youth delegates hesitate to remove their id cards and they patrol Trivandrum town wearing this IFFK tag.  On the same day when I was on my way back to my room after attending a workshop at the university, I noticed a middle-aged government servant travelling in the public transport wearing his official id card with a blue tag. That's the moment I thought about a large group of people, including me, asking “where is your ID card? ” more than ten times a day. Generally, ID cards are used as a tool for recognizing whether the person is an employee/ staff of a concerned organization.  Nowadays kindergarten to HEIs use ID Cards in their institutions. Majority of the students in the HEIs hesitate to wear the id card on their necks.  They put their cards in their pockets, and classroom and wear the tag without IDs and the higher education leaders complain that students are not wearing ID Cards.

It’s really interesting that on one side they hesitate to wear the card and on the other side complain others for not wearing it. At that moment I thought about why college students are not ready to wear their ID cards.

1) Poor Quality of Card and Tag:  younger generations are more focused on brands and quality. If the ID cards have low-quality threads, they will not be ready to wear it. They will complain that the image on the ID Cards looks too dim and the writings will vanish within some days. And the tag looks too old and always compares with other institutions.

2) Limited Use of ID Cards:  generally, colleges use these cards only for identification purposes, but they can use the cards for recording entry and exit in the library, recording classroom attendance etc. When the usage increases students are forced to use ID Cards inside the campus.

Generally, the management of the concerned institutions is not bothered about the marketing part of the identity cards. They think that students will throw away the cards after three years, but at the same time, they invest lots of money in the colander, display holdings, newspaper advertisements etc. But I am sure that identity cards have a major role in the advertisement because it travels more than a calendar or holding does.
