To Death
Dear dear, how you baffle the mighty human
With your mysterious methods.
The ignorant fear you every moment
Not daring to imagine the rendezvous with you.
Alas! They miss the essence of you
The beauty you encompass in the uncertainty
The sweet release you bring to the aching body
The great relief you bring to the ailing mind.
Every living moment is made precious
Each beloved is valued more
And every experience is counted
By the timekeeper you are.
The sick mind is prickly
Often tormented by the thorns of the world
You greet the gloomy with amicable cheers
Helping them to draw the circle full.
Can we ever thank you enough
For the services you provide,
The sheer stroke of your hands
Blessing the world in endless ways.
The favour you did
To the drowning boy in the tumultuous Mediterranean
To the breathless in the gas chambers
To the many mob lynched
The benevolence you showered
On the withered plants
On the brutalised animals
On the aged bodies
The immortalised Tithonus sought you,
For the magic you work
In the lives of everyone lived!
Can you be praised enough?
You shall prevail
Your enduring journey be your prize
Your deed be the daring feat
Your word be the last word.
