Common Charging Port

European Union’s Provisional Agreement on Common Charging Port

Recently EU made a provisional agreement that, from 2024 onwards all mobile device makers mandatory include a standard USB-C charging port for devices sold in the region. It will be applicable to a variety of devices, such as smartphones, tablets, cameras, etc. The proposal will be effected for wired mobile devices only, excluding wireless charging devices.

A previous study report tells that, consumers in the EU own more than two mobile phone chargers, and 38 percent of consumers reported having experienced problems at least once.

Under the new provision, consumers will no longer have multiple charging devices & cables, and they can use a single charger for mobiles, tablets, readers, etc.

Is it a solution for E-Waste in that field, by the implementation new provision probably it will reduce e-waste minimum of in that section. And it will remove the Apple uniformity in its production (lightning cable of Apple products). But Apple already started its introduction of C type of charging system to their products.
