The Story of My Driving Journey

Achieving new skills has always been one of my deepest interests. Yet, my parents never considered driving as something necessary, and that left me a little disappointed. Still, I never tried to argue or convince them.

After my marriage, things took a different turn. My husband was eager to teach me driving, and with his encouragement, I finally took the step and earned my driving licence. Getting a licence, I soon realized, is the easiest part — what truly matters is the practice that follows.

To stay consistent, I bought a brand-new blue Activa scooter. I began riding through the calm roads of my village, avoiding the busy town streets. At first, I was afraid to raise my speed beyond 20 km/h. My rides were short and cautious. When I became pregnant, I stopped riding completely, and that break extended into six long years.

But the desire to drive never left me. When I started working, I realized driving was no longer just a dream — it was a necessity. So, I bought a second-hand scooter and began my journey again.

The initial days were full of fear and hesitation. I would ride slowly, clutching the brakes every minute, blowing the horn at every corner, and stopping nervously at every slope. Yet, little by little, confidence grew. My speed reached 30, then 40 — and on clear straight roads, sometimes even 50. I had no greed for more; I was simply content.

With every ride, my happiness expanded. I felt as though I had wings — that I was no longer bound by the limits of distance or dependency. The fear of slopes vanished, the nervous honking stopped. I rode with calm and confidence.

Now, driving is not just a skill for me; it is a symbol of freedom. It has released me from the physical burden of crowded buses and the emotional strain of waiting on others. I believe everyone, especially women, should acquire the power of driving — it is more than movement; it is independence.

My next dream is to learn car driving. One day soon, I will buy my own car — and just like I conquered the scooter, I will conquer the roads ahead.
