A Soul of Gold

A Soul of Gold

Some people hold a special place in our hearts because of their love, care, and kindness. They may not realise how much they influence our lives, but their actions help shape who we become. For me, my grandfather is one such person. He is not just my grandfather but also my protector, my guide, and one of the most important people in my life.

Since my childhood, my father has been living abroad. During those years, my grandfather took care of me and became a big part of my everyday life. He took me to school and madrasa and brought me back home. He always made sure I had everything I needed. As a child, I thought these things were normal. As I grew older, I began to understand the love and care behind those little acts.

I am the first grandchild in my family, and all my family members have always treated me like a princess. Alhamdulillah, even at the age of 24, I am still their little princess! I have always received so much love and attention from everyone, especially my grandfather. He cares deeply about my happiness, needs, and future. Sometimes, even before I tell him what I want, he has already thought of a way to make it happen. His love has always made me feel safe, special, and protected.

My grandfather is a well-known and respected person in our locality. People often approach him when they have problems because they trust him and believe he will help them find a solution. Watching him interact with people has taught me many valuable lessons. He listens patiently, treats everyone with respect, and tries to understand people before judging them. These qualities have helped shape my character and taught me the importance of kindness and understanding.

One thing I admire most about him is the way he loves my mother. He has never treated her as just his daughter-in-law. Instead, he has loved her like his own daughter. When my mother became seriously ill and was admitted to the hospital, he was deeply worried about her. His concern showed me that true family love goes beyond relationships and titles. What matters most is the love and care we have for one another.

My grandfather has always wanted me to succeed in life. He supports my education, career, and dreams. When I attended my first interview at Al Shifa College, he accompanied me. His presence gave me confidence and helped me overcome my nervousness. Even today, whenever I face something new, knowing that he is there for me gives me courage.

One memory that touched me deeply is connected to my marriage. I was in the first year of my postgraduate studies when my Nikah took place. My grandfather wanted to make sure that marriage would never become a barrier to my education or career. He told my husband that I should be allowed to complete my studies and have the freedom to pursue job opportunities and build my career. I learnt about this from my husband later. I was deeply moved to realise that my grandfather had been protecting my dreams even when I knew nothing about it. He wanted me to study, become independent, and achieve my goals. This made me realise that his love was not just about protecting me but also about helping me build my own future.

Although we live in separate houses, his care for me has never changed. Whenever I go somewhere, he worries about my safety and wants to know whether I am alright. People in our locality sometimes joke that I do not need a bodyguard because my grandfather is always there to protect me! This little joke says so much about our special bond.

My grandfather has taught me more than words can express. He has shown me the importance of kindness, patience, respect, and helping others. I hope to follow his example and become someone people can trust and depend on.

Looking back, I realise that my grandfather has given me much more than love and protection. He has shaped my character, supported my dreams, and stood beside me through different stages of life.

Whatever I achieve in the future, a part of that success will always belong to him. I hope to make him proud and carry his values wherever life takes me. No matter how much I grow or how far I go, I will always be his little granddaughter. And to me, he will always be A Soul of Gold.
