Streepadham: A Book Review

I recently read the book "Sthreepadham" by Joyce. Later, I discovered that it was also adapted into a serial by the same name. The book portrays the complex situations and hardships that today's women face. It revolves around Balasudha, the third daughter of Jaychandran Nair. She is in a relationship with their family friend's son, Sooraj, and their marriage is fixed. Suddenly, as a shock, Jaychandran Nair loses all his properties and wealth and is forced to shift into a rental house. Their elder son, Harikrishnan, is compelled to go to Kuwait to provide for the family. Due to family clashes between them, Bala's and Sooraj's marriage is canceled, and they part ways. Balasudha attempts suicide but is saved in time. Her family starts seeing her as a burden as they struggle with their income now. She is forced into an arranged marriage with Venugopal. Despite Venugopan being a little too old and also not investigating much about him and his family, Bala is forced to marry him. Her sad destiny continues as we learn that Venugopan and his brothers are alcoholics, and their mother is the root of all evils in the family.

"Streepadham" is a profound exploration of family dynamics, love, and betrayal. Joyce crafts a captivating narrative that delves deep into the complexities of human relationships. The characters are richly developed, and their struggles and triumphs resonate with readers on a personal level. With its compelling storytelling and thought-provoking themes, "Sthreepadham" is a must-read for anyone seeking a powerful and insightful literary experience.
